Some Apps Are Watching You

Your smartphone may be intelligent--knowing all about your contacts, locations and other information--but it is not good about keeping that knowledge to itself. That's according to a report in The Wall Street Journal that found about half of smartphone apps studied share users' personal information "widely and regularly." The investigation determined that apps share such information as unique IDs, phone location and even gender or other personal details without users' knowledge or consent, the report states. "In the world of mobile, there is no anonymity," a Mobile Marketing Association spokesman said, noting that when it comes to a smartphone, it is "always with us. It's always on."
