IAPP leadership, staff and members attended Infosecurity New York in December. The event attracted many hundreds of security and privacy professionals attendees to the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.

Now in its fifth year, the conference consisted of more than eighty tracks on the top security topics, including emerging threats, compliance, wireless security and privacy. The IAPP hosted nine track sessions on timely issues of identity theft legislation, the privacy implications of data breaches, privacy and national security and online privacy issues such as spam and spyware. Top speakers included IAPP board members Harriet Pearson, Vice President, Workforce & Chief Privacy Officer for IBM Corp. and Agnes Bundy Scanlan, Counsel with Goodwin Procter. IAPP members from Merrill Lynch, Deloitte, Carlson Companies, DoubleClick, Hunton & Williams and Ernst & Young also presented. Former U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge and cryptographic expert Bruce Schniere gave keynote addresses.

A news release distributed over the Business Wire noted that the IAPP was an education sponsor of the event, which was produced by Reed Exhibitions. The IAPP also was singled out for providing "special programs," at this conference, namely training and testing as part of its Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) credentialing program.
