Janis Kestenbaum is senior legal advisor to Federal Trade Commission Chairwoman Edith Ramirez. She advises Chairwoman Ramirez on privacy and data security enforcement and policy issues and has served on delegations to the APEC Data Privacy Subgroup, the International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners, and the Asia-Pacific Privacy Protection Authorities forum. Janis previously prosecuted civil fraud cases as a staff attorney in the FTC’s Division of Marketing Practices. Before joining the FTC, Janis was counsel at Wilmer, Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, LLP, where she litigated telecommunications and technology matters. She is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School, where she was an editor of the Harvard Law Review.
