Ethan Watts is a lawyer specializing in business law, intellectual property law, real estate law and data privacy law. Ethan has more than 18 years of experience in business and intellectual property litigation, and his current practice also includes business startups and transactions, intellectual property law and litigation, cyber law / internet law related matters and outside general counsel services.



Ethan is CIPP/US certified with the IAPP and advises clients on data privacy and security law compliance. Ethan’s extensive experience in data privacy and data security law and related areas includes advising clients on compliance with laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), California’s Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA), the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography And Marketing (CAN-SPAM) Act, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Brazil’s Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD).



Ethan earned a B.S. from Brigham Young University and a J.D. and M.B.A. from the University of San Diego. While in law school, Ethan was the lead articles editor for the San Diego International Law Journal and worked as a web designer (including designing and developing the websites for the University of San Diego Law and Business schools). Prior to law and business school, Ethan was a professional volleyball player and a member of the 1996 U.S. Olympic indoor volleyball team.
