To serve and protect? Electronic health records pose challenges for privacy, autonomy and person-centered medicine

Originally published in The Journal of Person Centered Medicine, this paper explores healthcare providers’ notification practices under the current law requiring them to notify patients of their privacy rights and the efficiency of current means of monitoring privacy. Highlighting the potential for increased challenges to privacy with the implementation of electronic health records, the paper proposes full transparency in record usage so patients can monitor and control access to their records.
