At about 10 a.m. EST on February 12, the IAPP gained its 15,000th active member, a milestone that was celebrated here in our Portsmouth, NH, offices with a company-wide email containing 72-point font.

And then everyone got back to doing the training, certification, education and member support work that got all those members to join us in the first place.

We here on the IAPP publications team are grateful to all of you members for the trust you place in us by reading our work and the valuable feedback and volunteerism so many of you contribute on a daily basis. We work for you, and we want to take this opportunity to reiterate that if there are stories, tools, research, templates, web conferences, live conference presentations or anything else that we can look into and generate for you to please let us know.

Our goal, every day, is to give you information you can use to make good decisions as you go about your day-to-day work in the field of privacy. Please always feel free to let us know how we can do that better.

The IAPP’s first publication was launched in 2000, then called The Privacy Officers Advisor, since shortened to The Privacy Advisor, currently headed up by editor Angelique Carson, CIPP/US. Since then, we’ve added our robust Resource Center, managed by Emily Leach, CIPP/US, who also edits our Privacy Tracker blog; our Privacy Perspectives blog, edited by Jedidiah Bracy, CIPP/US, CIPP/E; our three extensive web conference series and our array of books, headed up by Dave Cohen, CIPP/US, and, of course, our Daily Dashboard, and ANZ, European and Canadian Digests, overseen—as with everything else we publish—by our managing editor, Jennifer Saunders, CIPP/US, and ably made possible by our team’s editorial coordinator, Leslie Brenner, CIPP/US.

And that’s not even mentioning the numerous events we program, under the oversight of Charley Suter, industry research being conducted by Andrew Clearwater, CIPP/US, whitepapers we produce and the amazing work being done by the folks at the IAPP’s brand-new Westin Research Center.

It’s been 14 years since the then-Privacy Officers Association was founded, with a handful of members who could basically meet around a table. Then, in March of 2012 we celebrated our 10,000th member. Now, here we are, just short of two years later, and we’re at 15k. You can see that things have accelerated just a bit.

Just like the privacy industry, itself. Hopefully, we’re keeping up.
