While Facebook has moved forward with changes to its privacy policies alerting users it may use their profile pictures, location and other personal information in advertisements, the company has deleted a controversial line in the policy on teens’ use of the site. The line stated Facebook assumed teens had obtained permission from their parents, drawing the ire of critics including Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA), who said Facebook should not profit from the personal information of children and teens. Facebook Chief Privacy Officer Erin Egan said, however, that the company wouldn’t gain additional rights as a result of the statement; rather, it was meant to get kids and their parents discussing the terms, The Washington Post reports.
