The New York Times reports on new services that track our habits—including an exercise game that monitors our fitness and e-books that “read” us. For example, the report states, start-ups “get reading data from subscribers who, for a flat monthly fee, buy access to an array of titles, which they can read on a variety of devices. The idea is to do for books what Netflix did for movies and Spotify for music.” As one author put it, “What writer would pass up the opportunity to peer into the reader’s mind?” Meanwhile, Gregory Schmidt writes a column on his use of Nintendo’s Wii Fit Meter.
