The two are the authors of a new book, Big Data: A Revolution That Will Transform How We Live, Work and Think, which addresses both the risks and benefits of Big Data. Regarding privacy concerns, the authors say anonymization is not possible when it comes to Big Data. The two are more concerned with “predictive policing,” which may see the use of Big Data analysis to determine which geographic areas and groups to surveil based on the data-based likelihood a crime may be committed. The authors suggest frameworks, including data “expiration dates,” to protect against Big Data’s misuse.
