The Department of Health and Human Services sent its final Omnibus Rule modifying the HIPAA Privacy, Security and Enforcement Rules to the White House Office of Management and Budget in March 2012, reports Hunton & Williams’ Privacy and Information Security Law Blog. “CISOs and CIOs should look at the HIPAA (modifications that are pending) as an opportunity to improve business associate security. It’s important for healthcare entities to focus their energies on seeking to prevent these sorts of incidents,” Sotto says.
