The New York Times reports on the use of GPS tracking devices by families. The small, beeper-like gadgets can be placed in a car to follow a teenager or spouse, in a child’s backpack to ensure the child gets to and from school safely or embedded in medical-alert technology to provide emergency help to the elderly. The user can track a subject’s location via the web or smartphone app—and some companies offer multiple tracking services.
