High Court Overrules Tribunal’s Decision Following Breaches

The Dunedin High Court ruled at a pre-appeal session that the Ministry of Social Development Agency need not follow orders made by the Human Rights Review Tribunal over Work and Income privacy breaches, reports The tribunal had ordered Work and Income to pay a Dunedin man $17,000 for two breaches of the Privacy Act, but the ministry called the tribunal’s decision excessive and said the tribunal lacked jurisdiction over the matter. An appeal hearing has been set for 7 February.
