The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is hosting its Advertising and Privacy Disclosures in Online and Mobile Media workshop today to consider the need for new guidance. The workshop will address mobile privacy disclosures and how they can be short, effective and accessible to consumers on small screens, according to an FTC press release. It will address concerns that have arisen since the FTC's online advertising disclosure guidance 12 years ago. UC Berkeley researcher Jennifer King said in her opening statements that consumers generally read as little as 25 percent of a web page and expect that the "least important information is located at the bottom of the screen."
