The Wall Street Journal reports on the "strong message" the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has sent to chief information officers (CIOs) and organizations delving into Big Data. In light of the FTC's final privacy report, CIOs who create the tools that make data collection possible are "caught between the rock of business requirements and the hard place of possible enforcement actions," the report states. FTC Consumer Protection Bureau Director David Vladeck said, "I think one message we can send: If we bring cases against Google and Facebook, we can bring cases against anyone," adding, "We need to clean up commerce on the Internet."
