Deleting personal information permanently from the web can be more difficult than it should be, reports The Wall Street Journal. One startup specializing in data removal reports 10 percent of the records it removes reappear every day. "People have this expectation that they can opt out and never check it again, and that's not a reasonable expectation," said one expert. Some U.S. regulators and lawmakers are working toward solutions. The White House is expected to call for consumer rights on personal data stored about them in its "Privacy Bill of Rights" to be released later this year, and FTC Commissioner Julie Brill called on data brokers last month to increase transparency.
