Facebook Exec: “Right Regulatory Environment” Needed

Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg spoke Tuesday at a technology conference amidst discussions of the EU's revised privacy rules, highlighting the type of reactions "global technology companies doing business in Europe are expected to raise against the looming data protection regulation," The New York Times reports. "We want to make sure we have the right regulatory environment--a regulatory environment that promotes innovation and economic growth," Sandberg said. The Wall Street Journal, meanwhile, suggests Sandberg is asking whether the EU's call for a "right to be forgotten" and other data protection provisions is worth potentially jeopardizing €15.3 billion in economic impact.
