The New York Times says data security has not been compromised after it accidentally sent an e-mail to 8 million people telling them that they had canceled their subscriptions. A Times employee erroneously sent the message to a list of people who'd previously given their e-mail addresses to the company. Initially, the company indicated via its Twitter feed that the message had been spam, inciting concerns from some recipients about who had access to their data. But The Times later confirmed that it sent the e-mail. "We regret the error and we regret our earlier communication noting that this e-mail was spam," a Times spokesperson said.
