The French online consumer rights group Internet Sans Frontières has filed a complaint with the CNIL against Facebook, claiming unfair data collection and retention practices, reports ZDNet France. The organization says the company collected users' data without prior notice and consent--using "zombie" cookies and facial recognition, among other methods. The complaint also points to data retention periods and claims users are prevented from deleting their data. The group says the agreement between the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and Facebook is not sufficient to ensure compliance with EU data protection rules since the commitment of Facebook to obtain consent from Internet users arrives too late and because the audit schedule--every two years--does not match the high speed of social networking innovations.
