The European Union (EU) has adopted new guidelines for the use of airport body scanners and, according to the EU commissioner of transport, the rules will help protect privacy and supply travelers with basic rights, The Washington Post reports. The new guidelines mandate that scanners not store or copy passenger images, security agents analyzing images be in a room separate from the actual screening and passengers be notified and granted an alternative screening method. A spokeswoman from the transport commission said, "The most important provision is that every passenger has the right to opt out and ask for the use of an alternative method."
