The New York Times explores the issue of online identity authentication. The government's National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace aims to enhance authentication so citizens will feel emboldened to conduct business via the Internet. But some say the creation of an Internet ID will make users more vulnerable to misuse and identity theft. "The whole thing is fraught with the potential for doing things wrong," says Microsoft engineer Kim Cameron.
