The country's proposed Data Privacy Bill aims to benefit the growth of IT and BPO, while also protecting "citizens whose personal data are stored by government offices and commercial establishments," the report states. In a statement to the Senate Committee on Science and Technology, industry leaders warn that without a law in place, there is a "real danger of losing investors to countries with a more favorable legislative framework" for privacy protection.
