Internet "On Alert" for New Regulations

"As federal officials move closer to creating Internet privacy laws, companies that have enjoyed the freewheeling nature of the Internet find themselves under increased scrutiny." That is the basis of a recent report in The Washington Post that looks at reactions from online companies and privacy advocates to the push at the federal level for privacy laws governing online tracking for such purposes as targeted advertising. As one privacy expert put it, "No matter what size the company, they are seeing how a government inquiry can shut down a business or affect the future of others.
