Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) has been selected to chair the new Senate Judiciary Subcommittee for Privacy, Technology and the Law, The Washington Post reports. Franken said his goal will be to "make sure that we can reap the rewards of new technology while also protecting Americans' right to privacy." The new committee was created by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) to "oversee laws and policies governing the collection, protection, use and dissemination of commercial information by the private sector," the report states. Leahy said the new committee will focus on how new technology has "unleashed new questions about how to protect Americans' privacy in the digital age."
