The U.S. needs to do a better job protecting the identities of its military personnel, according to a former Army intelligence officer who wrote a report that shines a light on the pervasive use of military members' Social Security numbers as identifiers. Lt. Col. Gregory Conti, now a West Point professor, writes that "Service members and their families are burdened with a work environment that shows little regard for their personal information."
