The Wall Street Journal reports on the array of people-search sites and data brokers that compile public records and social networking profiles. The sites harvest personal data using information that is publicly available, such as property records and telephone listings, as well as data on Web sites where users have posted information about themselves. A number of these data aggregators offer users options to remove information stored about them.
