The European Commission is planning to seek new mandates to negotiate the conditions for the transfer of information about airline passengers to countries outside the EU, the European Voice reports. The commission is expected to seek the European Parliament's approval and that of the Council of Ministers this month to void "previous battles with MEPs over international data-sharing," the report states. The agreement would address how the European Commission and EU member states would react when individual passenger data stored in airline reservation systems is requested by counties for security purposes. There are concerns that without an agreement in place, individual deals with foreign governments that would not meet the EU's privacy standards could come into play.
