The New York Times reports that chip maker Intel has acquired McAfee, which is one of the leading providers of antivirus and other computer security software, for $7.68 billion, turning to "security software and services as a way to separate its products from those of its rivals." The plan is to create links between Intel's chips and McAfee's security technology, the report states, as millions of products, including phones, cars and home appliances are linked to the Web.
