The federal government has released its exposure draft of the new Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) to replace the current Information Privacy Principles and National Privacy Principles, with submissions sought until 27 July. Attorney Kaman Tsoi reports that key areas to be impacted by the APPs include privacy policies and notices, direct marketing and biometrics. The APPs also include regulations for offshore data transfers, specifically referencing the cross-border disclosure of personal information. That report is expected by 20 October. (Registration may be required to access this story.)
