Victorian Privacy Commissioner Helen Versey and University of NSW Prof. Graham Greenleaf are among those calling for amendments to the legislation. E-health advocates, meanwhile, point to privacy breaches and healthcare mistakes with the current paper-based system in supporting the new plan. Chief clinical adviser Dr. Mukesh Haikerwal contends it is being derailed by those who "are out defending the privacy of the agenda to the exclusion of all thought of benefits to the individual brought about by better healthcare.''
