Parliamentary Committee Takes on Cloud Computing

The All-Party Parliamentary Committee discussed the data protection issues associated with cloud computing in Smith Square this week, reports PublicTechnology.net. The debate included public- and private-sector players. One participant, a solicitor for the law firm Pinsent Masons, said that those looking to adopt cloud services should take due diligence. "If your data is held in the United States," said Tom Greenbank, "has the datacenter provider signed up to the Safe Harbor Agreement?" An information-security veteran warned that the overwhelming business case for cloud computing means "it will happen with, or without, the blessing of the information security department."
