Blippy: Sharing Credit Card Data...Really?

In the era of sharing, along comes a platform for broadcasting credit card holders' purchases. TIME reports on Blippy.com, the site that, with users' permission, posts point-of-purchase information such as cost and location. "Why would any sane person volunteer to publicize that information?" asks TIME author Barbara Kiviat. One of Blippy's co-founders, Philip Kaplan, says it lets users "tell people--friends, acquaintances, maybe even strangers--a little bit more about you." Kiviat suggests that the ability for other Blippy users to comment on purchases could shame one into spending less. But Kaplan says another motivation might be at play--bragging rights.
