No Criminal Charges for Database Breach
DATA LOSS—NEW ZEALANDFebruary 5, 2010
Two police officers from Counties Manakau will not face criminal charges after being accused of leaking information from the police national database, the New Zealand Herald reports. Police investigated after receiving an allegation that information from the Police National Intelligence Application, which maintains information on convicts and surveillance targets, was illegally distributed. The officers remain suspended on full pay, and the matter is to be handled internally. Between August 2007 and August 2009, 33 police staff were caught making unauthorised checks of the database, according to the report.
