The New York Times reports on Google's alliance with the National Security Agency (NSA) to learn more about the cyber attacks that breached the company's cybersecurity defenses last year. The collaboration is not uncommon, says James Lewis of the Center for Strategic and International Studies. "This is the other side of the NSA," he said. "It's not unusual for people to go to the NSA and say 'please take a look at my code.'" However, the "cooperative research and development agreement" has raised the eyebrows of the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC). EPIC filed a lawsuit yesterday to obtain information about the NSA's role. (Registration may be required to access this story.)
