Seoul's Central District Court ruled that Auction, a major online open market, is not responsible for the theft of its customers' personal information, the Korea Herald reports. The company reported the data breach to authorities and customers and therefore took the appropriate actions, the court said. Experts are praising the rapid and transparent reaction to the breach, in which the names and resident registration numbers of 145,000 customers were stolen from the company's Web site. "Auction, at least, showed a good example by promptly responding to the en masse breach and by opening up the issue to the customers," an official from Korea's Internet and Security Agency said.
