The White House's cybersecurity coordinator has reaffirmed the Obama administration's commitment to data protection and privacy, Federal News Radio reports. "I've said for a long time, privacy and security are two sides of the same coin," Howard Schmidt said at the State of the Net Conference last week. "Very clearly, without security, we have no privacy. Data protection is key to the things we're going to do." While Schmidt's commitment received high marks from privacy advocates, concerns remain over the administration's lack of a Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board. As Senator Daniel Akaka (D-HI) put it, "While the focus on ensuring privacy has improved, I believe more can be done."
