Chantal Bernier has been appointed Assistant Privacy Commissioner of Canada. Her five-year term began December 8. Bernier is a lawyer who most recently served as Assistant Deputy Minister for Public Safety Canada. Before that, she served as Assistant Deputy Minister, Socio-Economic Policy and Programs at Indian and Northern Affairs Canada. She started her career in Canada's Department of Justice.
In her new role, she will assist the privacy commissioner in carrying out the duties associated with protecting the privacy and personal information rights of Canadians.
