As excitement builds in Washington over the impact of the 2008 presidential election, the IAPP Privacy Summit 2008 will capture the momentum with analysis and discussion about legislative trends and likely developments in privacy in the coming year. In an enduring commitment to provide attendees with programming focused on global privacy, the IAPP Privacy Summit 2008 also will present sessions on the latest global privacy issues.

"Privacy professionals have come to expect the Summit to deliver the most salient updates and comprehensive information for privacy pros at all levels," said IAPP Board President Sandra R. Hughes, CIPP, Global Ethics, Compliance and Privacy Executive, The Procter & Gamble Company. "The Summit also is infused with an energy derived from its venue in Washington, D.C. This year, privacy pros can expect the backdrop of presidential politics to fuel the Summit with even more urgency."

Attendees can expect the following exciting offerings:

  • Keynote by George Washington University Law Professor Jeffrey Rosen, noted constitutional law expert and the author of the recent book, The Supreme Court: The Personalities and Rivalries that Defined America.
  • Keynote by award-winning NPR Legal Affairs Correspondent Nina Totenberg, who will join Rosen in offering her views on the constitutional right to privacy and the U.S. Supreme Court.
  • In-depth preconference sessions on social networking and closing the generation gap; building privacy and security into software and online services; an insurance privacy workshop; targeted behavioral marketing and the road ahead; transferring, selling, trashing or destroying data; and the ever-popular privacy professional bootcamp. Preconference attendees also will have the opportunity to attend the Practical Privacy Series session on Protecting Privacy in the Federal Government.
  • Closing Keynote luncheon, featuring thought leaders and privacy pros who will comprise a distinguished panel to debate the pros and cons of various privacy models in the world.

Other key elements of the Summit will include:
