The Women's Executive Network, in its annual list of the top 100 most powerful women in Canada, named Dr. Ann Cavoukian, Ontario's Information and Privacy Commissioner, as one of the honorees in the "Trailblazers and Trendsetters" category for her groundbreaking work in protecting privacy. Cavoukian, who has won a number of awards both in Canada and internationally, is recognized as one of the leading privacy experts in the world.
"I feel very honored to have my name linked with the distinguished Canadian women who were given this award," said the commissioner. "I want to salute the Women's Executive Network for its ongoing work in drawing attention to the outstanding accomplishments of Canadian women in so many walks of life."
Cavoukian, Ontario's first Information and Privacy Commissioner to be re-appointed to a second term, joined the office during its start-up phase 20 years ago, was appointed assistant commissioner in 1990 and became commissioner in 1997.
