The tech industry is waiting on EU votes this week that could affect businesses, The Hill reports. Some EU officials are calling for changes to rules that allow U.S. companies to process EU citizens’ data to make that data inaccessible to the National Security Agency. The European Parliament (EP) will consider the update to the data privacy regulation and a report from the Civil Liberties Committee that follows an investigation into U.S. government surveillance and makes recommendations on suspending agreements with U.S. companies. If the EP votes to approve that report, it would send a “political message” to the U.S., said the Center for Democracy and Technology's Justin Brookman.
