The role and utility of anonymous and pseudonymous identities online has long been debated. Many argue it helps protect “trolls” and hate speech, but a recent column by Judith Donath, a fellow at Harvard’s Berkman Center for Internet and Society, explores the importance of using pseudonyms online to protect individual privacy and to foster personal expression.
