NPR reports on the KizON wearable tracking wristband from LG Electronics. The technology uses WiFi and GPS to provide real-time location tracking in addition to a “One Step Direct Call” feature designed to allow the child and parent to communicate directly. Such technology, the report states, raises the question of whether minors have a right to privacy. In 2008, one lawyer wrote, “Children do have privacy rights, just like adults, although even the most important constitutional rights of children may be limited because of their minority status." Iowa State University Prof. Reynol Junco said, “I think they’re entitled to some privacy, but not much. We are parents, after all.”
