In her annual and much-anticipated report on the state of the Internet, Mary Meeker on Wednesday presented this year’s slide deck in California, The New York Times reports. Among the big takeaways was that Internet usage is slowing, but mobile data consumption is up 81 percent worldwide and mobile traffic now represents 25 percent of total Internet traffic, up from 14 percent last year. Meeker also made it clear in her report that users want to share information more privately and that messaging services such as WhatsApp are growing exponentially. Much of the privacy focus begins on slide 59, noting that modern communication has the “potential to make the world better” but “potential impact to personal privacy will remain an on-going challenge.”
