Wired reports on the concerns surrounding the Internet of Things, according to the Pew Research Center’s latest survey, which indicates “some of the brightest tech minds are expressing some doubts about the potential impact on everything from security and privacy to human dignity and social inequality.” Meanwhile, privacy advocates are warning about a “nightmare scenario” in the fitness tracking and app space—which often has “zero” user privacy protections, one expert said. And in an opinion piece for TIME, Whitney Erin Boesel writes that Google Glass isn’t a problem for privacy—its users are, while a letter to the editor in The New York Times by Mark MacCarthy, vice president of public policy of the Software & Information Industry Association, disagrees with an earlier editorial claiming that people should be able to block data use at the point of collection. “Such an approach throws the baby out with the bath water,” MacCarthy writes.
