Key Democrats say they support the National Security Agency’s (NSA) decision to end bulk collection of phone records, Politico reports. The Obama administration is expected to unveil a proposal this week that would see phone companies maintaining control of records and require the NSA to obtain search warrants for access. Sen. Dianne Fienstein (D-CA) praised President Barack Obama for calling for the change, as did Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR), among others. Edward Snowden issued a statement via the American Civil Liberties Union, writing, “I believed that if the NSA's unconstitutional mass surveillance of Americans was known, it would not survive the scrutiny of the courts, the Congress and the people.”
