At a panel discussion hosted on Monday by the University of South Florida, in Tampa, keynoter Peter Warren Singer told the crowd that cybersecurity will be a $120 billion industry by 2017 and will create “one million” new jobs, with the majority paying more than $100,000 per year in salary. News station WTSP reports companies like Global Telecom Exchange, which encrypts calls and messages, are already seeing increased business following the high-profile Target and Neiman Marcus data breaches before Christmas. “Prior to the Target security breach, awareness was probably at level one,” said Michael Nelson, managing partner at Global Telecom. “Now it’s at a six or seven.”
