Privacy advocates who initiated an effort to seek information from Canada’s telecommunications companies on their data-sharing practices are disappointed with the lack of responses, The Canadian Press reports. The informal coalition, which included The Citizen Lab, academics and civil liberties organizations, contends, “Canadians have only a vague understanding of how, why and how often companies have disclosed information to government agencies,” the report states. Researcher Christopher Parsons, who assisted with the effort, said 10 of the 16 Internet and telephone companies that received the January questionnaire responded, and one asked for additional time.
