That warning is based on the commissioner’s annual report, which indicates public concern about companies’ use of personal information. The commissioner’s office received a record-high 1,142 complaints in the measured year, which ended June 30. Shroff said breaches at the Accident Compensation Corporation and Social Development Ministry indicate a need for government agencies—the subject of the majority of consumer complaints—to take privacy more seriously. “The tech revolution has crept up on them,” Shroff said.
