The New York Times reports on the amount of data collected for marketing purposes at one Arkansas company. Acxiom Corporation helps companies perform database marketing by collecting details such as age, race, sex, weight, height and buying habits on about 500 million active consumers worldwide. FTC Commissioner Julie Brill says data brokers should tell the public about their data collection, sharing and uses. Acxiom's Chief Privacy Officer Jennifer Barrett Glasgow, CIPP/US, is quoted as saying she supports increased industry openness and that it's "not an unreasonable request to have more transparency among data brokers."
