Anna Eshoo (D-CA) suggests that focusing on children's privacy may be the way forward. The Washington Post reports that while most lawmakers think children need clear online protections, the current proposals will be hard to turn into law. Meanwhile, Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) spoke at a House Energy and Commerce subcommittee hearing, saying, "Self-regulation isn't working," and criticizing the standards for allowing ad networks to continue collecting users' data after they opt out of behavioral targeting.
