Data Protection Commissioner Billy Hawkes released his annual report this week, and among the findings was a "dramatic increase in the number and significance of organizations that have lost personal data," he said, up from 119 reports in 2009 to 410 in 2010. The report points to increased demands in a new code of practice as the reason, "rather than an increase in the absolute number of data breaches." The report also looks at specific issues related to the use of biometrics and closed-circuit television (CCTV), highlighting one case where a school was required to remove CCTV cameras from its restrooms.
